This dish is decorated in the doucai style, whereby the overglaze enamels are painted within underglaze blue outlines. This style of careful juxtaposing of colours was expensive and time-consuming. The design is of ducks on a lotus pond.
Physical description
Porcelain plate painted in underglaze blue and overglaze enamel colours of red, green, brownish-yellow and purplish blue. Inscribed with the mark of Jiajing. In the middle, within a medallion, two ducks amidst flowering lotuses. A similar design is painted around the underside of the rim.
