Physical description
Wall or door-hanging, velvet, woven in colours with a dragon and pearl among clouds above waves in the centre, forming a circle, and surrounded by dragons, flowers, and clouds. Narrow border of fret pattern, and wider outer border carrying out the general design.

Object history note
Purchased from Mons. S. Bing, Paris, on 15 December 1887. According to registration records, this object came 'from the Summer Palace at Pekin', which refers to the imperial summer retreat Yuanmingyuan, located north of Beijing. Yuanming yuan was destroyed by British and French troops during the Second Opium War in 1860. Whether this object came from Yuanmingyuan is difficult to verify.
