Altar table frontal

Physical description
Altar table frontal of cut voided satin velvet with red and green silk pile, brocaded in gilt paper strips. The central red panel is decorated with a four-clawed dragon rising above roaring sea waves and surrounded by clousd; at the corners are four Daoist emblems (clockwise from top right): castanets, a gourd, a sheng musical instrument, and a fan; framed by a green border decorated with wavy floral stem. A slightly wider piece of the same material has been stitched across the top. It is decorated with two Buddhist lions playing with a brocade ball, and surrouned by a green border of wavy floral stem. The top is edged with a band of dark blue cotton; the back is lined with red cotton.
