Physical description Altar table frontal of cut voided satin velvet with red and green silk pile, brocaded in gilt paper strips. The central red panel is decorated with a four-clawed dragon rising above roaring sea waves and surrounded by clousd; at the corners are four Daoist emblems (clockwise from top right): castanets, a gourd, a sheng musical instrument, and a fan; framed by a green border decorated with wavy floral stem. A slightly wider piece of the same material has been stitched across the top. It is decorated with two Buddhist lions playing with a brocade ball, and surrouned by a green border of wavy floral stem. The top is edged with a band of dark blue cotton; the back is lined with red cotton.
