Physical description Detachable collar for a woman comprising three overlapping tiers of ruyi-shaped lappets. Each tier is a different colour - green, red, white - and the lappets are of satin embroidered with garden vignettes in mainly seed stitch, satin stitch and gold couching. Each lappet is trimmed with four narrow edgings. The collar is open at the front and fastens with two silk loop and knot buttons. The lappets seem to have originally been fastened together with silk loops and tiny spherical metal buttons. These still exist but large stitches now keep the lappets joined together. the collar is lined with blue self-patterned silk and where the lining has come unstitched a stiff paper interlining can be seen. This type of collar is often called a 'cloud collar' and may be for bridal wear.
